Staying Fit, No Gym Required!

I’ve had several people ask me about my fitness routine and they’re always surprised that I do it all in my room! Not to mention it’s short & sweet.

I use the Fitstar Yoga App everyday. For $40 a year it gives me unlimited use of all of their yoga routines. My favorite in the morning is Down and Unwound (31 minutes). In the evening before bed I like Before Bedtime (16minutes). I’ve joined gyms & paid for yoga sessions I’ve never attended mostly because there’s never a class that works with my schedule. I literally roll out of bed and onto the yoga mat and am half asleep when I start but by the end I feel great! Last school year this was it as far as excercise beyond walking a lot during the school day.

Once summer break rolled around I felt that I needed to add 30 minutes of cardio because I wasn’t as active during the day. At the beginning of the summer I walked outside for 30minutes. That didn’t last long in this Texas heat for long, so I decided to invest in a portable elliptical machine from Amazon (Stamina In Motion $98). The first few days I used it I could barely walk I was so sore haha. Now I walk backward for 15 minutes and forward for 15 minutes.

That’s it! No more paying for classes that I don’t attend! I’m my own personal trainer and for all the single or busy moms out there, I hear you! If you have any questions, I’m happy to answer to the best of my ability. I’d love to hear all of your workout secrets! If you need a workout buddy or a source of motivation let me know!

Change Your Diet, Change Your Life

My Journey:

Friends and coworkers started to notice a difference in my weight, muscle tone, and overall happiness over the last year and wanted to know more about my exercise and diet. I hope last weeks post was helpful and encouraged you to find exercise you enjoy. It doesn’t have to be something you dread everyday.  Although exercise is important, I found that what you eat is more important!  It didn’t matter how much I worked out, until I changed my eating habits, I couldn’t loose weight.

Last July my family and I started a Ketogenic Diet.  My parents actually used the official Ideal Protein Diet which is based on the Ketogenic Diet but offers prepackaged foods, weekly meetings with a doctor for weigh-ins and blood work, and  coaching.  I opted for finding alternative foods that followed the same diet plan and used Pinterest to find recipes for preparing meals (search Ideal Protein Phase 1 Recipes).  In September, I had reached my goal weight having lost 23 pounds.  It’s been over a year and using what I learned, I have maintained my goal weight.  Instead of going on a diet, this is a way of life.  My taste buds have changed and I no longer need butter or other high calorie additives to make food taste good.

If you are considering trying the Ketogenic Diet, I recommend that you visit the Ketogenic Diet Resource Page.  It has a ton of useful information as well as cautions.  This diet is not safe for everyone.

Products that I Use Regularly:

These products can be found at Walmart, HEB, GNC, and on Amazon.  I love the Vanilla Milkshake protein powder!  It only has 100 calories and with 22g of protein it fills you up and tastes great!  It doesn’t have the slimy feel, bad after taste, and non-dissolving chunks that other protein powders have.  Sometimes I add unsweetened coconut or almond milk (2 oz.) with water.

Click here to read more about d’lites!

If you crave ice cream like I do especially in the summer, d’lites is your new best friend! It is dairy free, gluten free, and low calorie (50 calories for 4 oz)!  They also sell Quest products at the best price I have found.

walden farms

Walden Farms products can be found at HEB in the diabetic aisle.  They syrup and salad dressings taste just as good as the calorie and sugar packed brands that take your less than 50 calorie salad to a 500 calorie salad!

peach oolong

You can find Peach Oolong tea at HEB.  Sometimes it’s nice to have something in addition to 64 ounces of water a day.  Check out the 10 Amazing Benefits of Oolong Tea.

I hope that this is helpful to you.  I am more than happy to answer any questions that you might have to the best of my ability and help in any way that I can.  Please leave a comment and let me know what products you love!  If you are enjoying the blog, I would love for you to subscribe!  Just click the subscribe button and enter your email.  It will deliver new posts to you in an email.

    1. I hope you like it! I like that I can work out on my schedule. I never can find a class that’s exactly when I want to go. So gym memberships are money down the drain for me. Let me know what you think.

  1. Love this post! Eating less carbs is such a game changer in terms of weight-loss or even dropping water weight. America needs to stop the “fat free” fad and really look at the rest of the nutrition label!

  2. This is a very insightful post! I love hearing tips and things that other woman are using! Give me ideas and keeps my routine interesting 😊
